About Us:

Prep Tours offers student educational cultural immersion tours and student music performance tours to Puerto Rico.

Meet Your Hosts, Nancy Escabi and Paul Borkowski

Hands-on owners, Nancy Escabi and Paul Borkowski, have resided in Puerto Rico for over 25 years and have an in-depth knowledge of the island. They have strong backgrounds in Education, Puerto Rican Studies, Transportation, Tourism, Safety and Security.

As the first elected female president of CAIS (Caribbean Association of Independent Schools), Nancy's credits include that of a teacher, a school camp director, early childhood coordinator, school principal and Chairperson of Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accreditations as well as CADIE, an island-based private educational accrediting agency. She is currently Head of School at a prominent independent school on the island with an enrollment of 775 students (Pre K to High School). Nancy possesses a BS in Education from CCNY and a MS in Education from Inter-American University.

Paul is a retired New York City Department of Corrections Captain with nearly 25 years of experience in corrections, courts, safety and security. Paul has, in addition to his law enforcement experience, a strong background in Puerto Rican Studies and has lectured on all levels on his extensive research on topics pertaining to Puerto Rican Studies. He is a licensed Tour Operator and a certified Tour Guide.

Carol Buchanan

Carol Buchanan is a retired high school educator with 40 years of teaching experience She has taught all levels of Spanish including AP Spanish. She is presently working towards working toward a PhD in Education. Carol continues to travel extensively with students and is in awe of all the elements that make Puerto Rico the ideal destination for student educational and music performance travel. Carol is our state-side representative.



Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Rios

Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Rios (Ph.D Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) is a long time resident of Rincon. She is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Puerto Rico and has arranged presentations and workshops for visiting students etc. In addition, Sandy is responsible for developing the soccer program in Rincón. Through her efforts, the Rincón soccer program has become a major soccer force on the island and is a member-in-good- standing in the Puerto Rico Soccer Federation. Sandy is our soccer adviser and consultant, and arranges soccer matches for soccer groups in all age categories.



Charles 'Chuck' Buchanan

Chuck Buchanan is a retired high school Principal, former musician, band conductor, secondary school music teacher, music consultant, civil engineer, athlete, and coach. Chuck brings a wide variety of experience and knowledge to PREP Tours, and is our 'Jack of All Trades.' Chuck has extensive travel experience and has traveled around the globe. He has only recently discovered the wonders of Puerto Rico and is an avid advocate of the 'Isla del Encanto.'



Juan Carlos Vega

Dr. Juan Carlos Vega (b. Puerto Rico) lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University. He possesses a Master of Education (Major in Music Education) of Cambridge College in Cambridge, Massachusetts; a Bachelor Degree in Music Education of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music; and a Piano Performance Certificate (Pop Piano) from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

His teaching experiences include being the creator & founder of the Music School Program at the Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He currently works as Adjunct Instructor of Music Education for graduate students at Cambridge College Puerto Rico Center. Previously, he taught General Music courses and conducted the school Music Program and the choir at the elementary school Josefita Monserrate de Sell’s in San Juan. Vega has been a Theory & Solfege and Piano Professor for the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, and for the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.

He authored A Brief History of Music in Puerto Rico (2001; translation from Spanish) and other publications, and in 2005 produced the album Popssical: Classical goes Latin. Aside from teaching, Vega currently serves as pianist, guest conductor, singer, and arranger for the concert band of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. His high school musical groups have performed in the United States and Europe.



Victor 'Papo' Rivera

Victor 'Papo' Rivera is the President of the Puerto Rico Tour Guides and has organized and led thousands of narrated tours throughout the island as well as training a great amount of certified Tour Guides. Recently, Papo participated in an NBC TV special on Puerto Rico.



Carlos Aneiro

Carlos Aneiro, historian, based in Ponce, is a wealth of information and lends his expertise on Puerto Rican history and culture to all of our clients. Carlos is co-author of Brevario de Ponce y sus lugares de interés.
